A Mastodon in Hyde Park, New York

A perfectly preserved set of mastodon bones is being excavated in Hyde Park, New York. With a some help from Vassar students and the local community, Dr. Warren Allmon, of the Paleontological Research Institute located in Ithaca, New York, is painstakingly sorting through the mud to piece together the 11,400-year-old mastodon skeleton. The discovery was first made by property owners Larry and Sheryl Lozier in the late summer of 1999 when they wanted to deepen their pond. Little did they know...
