From a background in low-grade metamorphic petrology and the crystal structures of clay minerals, Jeff Walker has developed a research program focusing on the Geology of soils and their importance as a basis for natural and agricultural ecosystems. Walker's research is based on Singletree Farm, his 15-acre family farm located near campus. Current projects at Singletree Farm include old field succession and the development of hay and pasture lands, and weed control using controlled grazing by livestock. Other interests include agricultural heritage of the mid-Hudson region, sustainable community development, religion and environment, and ecological literacy and environmental education.
